Haven't seen many posts from you in the last few days hope all is well. I am having trouble with the steering on my IH 130. I posted on 9/29 about it. Do you have any ideas? Thanks Buggy

Buggy: I'm around, just don't have as much time these days. We have a federal election on here in Canada, and I like those discussions, kind of a blood sport.

Anyhow back to your 130 steering. Does the steering wheel shaft have any end to end movement? If it's tight, I wouldn't worry about the bearings. If it's loose, you'll have to remove the shaft and replace the bearings.

My experience with these is most free travel is caused by the two woodruff keys on the vertical shaft in steering box. There is a woodruff key on the tapered section outside bottom of box that keys steering control arm to shaft. Inside the box the half gear is keyed to shaft with a woodruff key. Those two keys if loose enough can give you 1-1/2 turns of free travel on steering wheel. The cure, often times the keyways have to be machined larger and use larger keys.

Politics as a blood sport might be fun. Stick them in an arena with clubs and let them go at each other. Are you a heckler?

As for the keyways being a bit wobbled out - my cheap solution is to take an oversized key and grind/file on it to make it a precise, tight fit into the hole that's there.

Steve: Yes, I'm a heckler, not a party man. That arena idea is a good one. My grandfather suggested that at the beginning of the cold War 50 years ago. His plan was to cage world leaders, let them duke it out.
