farmall a not starting

if the tractor has been sitting for a while, put a couple squirts of trans fluid or light weight motor oil in each cylinder, crank the motor over a few times and then replace plugs and try and start it. maybe give it a shot of ether starting fluid.

well if its poping it could be the carb use ether but not alot once these old tractors get addicted to it its like tractor crack

A lot of times one that has been sitting for very long just plain needs to be pulled to loosen them back up. Or as one of the other guys say put some ATF in the cylinders to bring the compression up. Can you here the impulse trip when your cranking it if not then that is a big part of the problem

If it just will not get smooth or stay running with out popping back, make sure the plug wires are on:

Looking from the back.
If the valves are sticking open (and they can very easily) it will misfire until they are freed up by taking the valve cover off, and using PB Blaster (or the type you like except WD40) and tapping on the retainers. Just tap downward with a plastic mallet. If they stay down, they can be gently (and evenly pried back up). work them until they close by themselves, and re install the valve train. Be sure to get the pushrods on the lifters! JimN
