Farmall M Liftall Question

So last week I added 2 quarts to my lift all reservoir. The loader responded much better. Today I added another quart only to make a huge mess after I lifted up the loader and let it back down. It went up alot thought but seemed like it could have gone more. The crap that came out what kind of a milky mess. Looks like water in the oil to me. My question is how the hell do I drain the oil out of the reservoir? I want to do that and put new hoses to get the lift out of it I'd like. I know that water is getting thought the breather cap. It's just a pipe end with a hole drilled in it. In the manual it states a breather with a dip stick. Does anyone know if this is still available from the dealer or aftermarket?

thanks for the help.

There should be a pipe plug on the bottom of your lift all reservoir so you can drain the fluid out. (Assuming you are still using the belly mounted one)

I dont think that new hoses are going to be helpful in achieving the lift out of your loader that you would like, unless the ones you have are leaking fluid. It may be that your liftall doesnt have the capacity (its only 6 quarts) to lift the loader as much as you would like to. I have seen several folks here on the forums that have had a separate reservoir tank that sat on top of the liftall to provide more capacity. Perhaps this would help you out in this situation.

As far as the cap, you can often find them on eBay, or you could go buy one from a hydrauilc parts store (just the breather, not the dipstick) if you dont care about staying original.

I don't know about the cap but I just ordered a dipstick from the dealer for my M. They seem to be able to get most things I have needed for the H, M. My dealer was even able to go aftermarket for me on a pump that was too expensive from IH.

I couldn't find a pip plug. I feel stupid because I can't find the darn thin!!!! I did however notice that I think the loader is hooked up dumb. Both cylinders are hooked up to one outlet! One hose runs to the right cylinder which has a steel pipe hooked to it and hose from there runs to the other cylinder. Would it behoove me to hook up one cylinder to one outlet and one to another? Seems like it would work much better that way.

Anyone have a detailed location for that plug?

Thanks a ton again.

The cap for the system can be gotten at almost any salvage yard for Farmall tractors. they are shaped a bit like a chefs hat with ribs around the top. But.
Making a larger resivoir will help most.
The drain plug is in the bottom of the pump casting. It is the angular block of iron held up by four bolts. It also has a slotted hole in each side of it to be used for attachments.
The plug has a square head and is 1/2" pipe thread.
A short nipple and a T can be put in that drain hole. put the plug back in one side of the T, and a hose fitting to a resivoir tank in the other. Use a 2 gallon resivoir tank, and position it so that it is equal to, or a bit lower than the fill cap, and higher than the pump retaining bolts mentioned above. This will allow additional oil, and space for it to return to work in the system. I think that your timing gears are going out in the front cover (above post). Replace them with gears from late 51, or newer engines, they are improved. JimN

Strap/bolt it to the loader. Use an appropriate return hose to the T in the bottom. If it raises and lowers with the loader, it should not matter as long as its top stays above the resivoir on the tractor. I would put the vent in the resivoir, and cap the fill hole on the pump. JimN
