H oilpan leaking

littlered

2 months ago I noticed a spot where oil was seeping out around the pan gasket. I changed the gasket and put sealer on it. NOW OIL IS SEEPING OUT IN THE SAME SPOT AND THE BOLTS CLOSE TO THIS SPOT HAVE OIL DROPLETS BUILDING UP ON THE HEAD OF THE BOLTS. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

When you had the pan off did you notice if it might be bent, even slightly, or even warped a bit? When you reinstalled it maybe you over tightened those bolts. Just a thought.

Did you make sure that the oil pan surface is clean, free of dirt and old gasket remains? Is the oil pan surface warped or out on shape? Did you make sure both surfaces were clean and smooth when you put it together? How tight did you tighten the bolts? It is easy to over tighten and if they are too tight, it will split the gasket, if they are too loose it will also leak.

It is not unusual to have them crack in the flange bend, usually the front corners, They will leak out through the reinforcement straps.

I replaced the oil pan gasket on a 656 and had a similar problem. Found that some of the pan bolt holes are tapped all the way through to the interior of the block. Oil can follow from the end of the bolt, around the bolt threads and through the bolt holes, through the holes for the bolts in the gasket and wind up on the head of the bolt. The fix is to put some thread sealer or gasket sealer on the threads of the bolt before you thread them in.

thanks for the input guys. this sight is great, just wish i'd found it sooner.I would like to know if the pan is warped can it be fixed or would it be better to live with a small seep then try to fix it and create a huge headache?
