Noise in C transmission.

Recently I posted about a clicking sound I noticed while driving my C. Thought it was in or near the clutch. Today I got the tractor in the shop, jacked up one wheel and went through the gears. The noise is in the transmission. In reverse the "clicking" sound is the loudest, first gear not as loud, no clicking in second gear, and the sound diminishes to a "ticking" sound in third and fourth. In the higher gears the ticking is more rapid, but is barely noticeable in fourth. My diagnosis is a bad bearing on the input shaft at the front of the transmission, and the farther back the engaged gear is, the "pressure" on the bearing decreases. Would appreciate any comments or ideas you have about what to look for. (I've already started to split the tractor.) Thanks.
