Farmall C- Super C engine-correct rings?- stepped piston ID

I have a C that is a 1950, the casting date on the engine would indicate that it is a 1954. I have the engine apart, and I put new sleeve seals in. The engine was rebuilt, and it has stepped top pistons. One of the pistons is messed up, and the top ring groove is smashed down. I broke the top ring taking it out, so I need some rings for the piston.

How do I know what I have? What is the best way to measure?

There are 3 solid rings on the piston, and then an oil control set(thin ring-corrugated ring-thin ring). So, in total, there are 6 rings on the piston.

I am hoping that the last set of rings listed here http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/store/...p;md=SUPER C&cat=Engine Rings&r=mcats will be what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance.

You could probably have at least three different varieties of hi comp pistons, Fire Craters, M&W plus some more. If it was me and you know of a machine shop around that does engine work, I'd take a piston there and they should be able to get the right parts.

A super C engine has a water pump the C did not. A C just has a fan . As Gab says a good machine shop should be able to help. An engine after about 52 or 53 should be a C123 or Super C engine.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I found JCC on the inside of the skirt, and it looks like(google) JCC is Jieh Chueng Industrial Co. 1099 P was also cast into the piston. I did a search and found nothing for 1099P. I measured the bore and it is 3.25"

It looks like I'll need to buy a whole set of rings, and have to spend $100 instead of spending $20 on one ring set. This is just another dissapointment in a long line of them since I first got the tractor. It started with water in the oil, and now, it looks like I need to put all new rings in it, or at least buy a whole new set of rings.

This engine was rebuilt and only run for a few minutes before I bought it. This si another reason why people who don't know how to work on things, should just stay away from things they don't understand. (My opinion... stated before somebody jumps on me.)

Then again, feel free to jump on me. It's your dime.

Thanks,
John
