B Farmall will not throttle

My B throttle works the way it should when not running. You start it up it will not open up when you throttle you can hand operate at carb and get high idel.Seems as if governor will not let it open up and run. Any help thanks

How can you tell it works when not running??

Are all the connections tight and properly adjusted???

Does the govenor shut you back down, when you operate at the carb??

What does the manual say about adjustments??

You do have an operators manual, don't you??

Is there any way that something is in the breather pipe and being sucked into the way of the butterfly when it is running, but when it is shut off it is falling out of the way?

A broken spring in the governor will allow that to happen. When not running, the throttle hand lever moves the linkage and the governor internals move the throttle rod. But when running, the broken spring allows the engines Rpm to keep the throttle closed. (having not looked inside yours, this is my best guess) JimN

I can see that all linkage moves right when not running. Adjustments are all correct as far as manual settings. I will pull governor to see if I have a broken spring.

Has this tractor been sitting not running for a while? I ran into a similar situation yrs ago with a C that had been stored--- ran perfectly at idle and would not speed up. All linkage appeared to be moving properly. Nearly went nuts trying to figure it out--- removed governor, etc.--- until I found the oil bath breather had 3 times the amount of oil in it that it should have had. I corrected this and she ran like a new one and speeded up just as it should with the throttle. Just a thought...

do not pull the gov shaft/assembly out of the engine! it can be done, but i wasn't careful and had to retime the motor. the dist is in the wrong spot yet, but i got it close enough to where the vent holes in the cap are at the bottom and the primary wire from coil just reaches with the timing set right.

that is when you attempt the repair without removing engine or front bolster and timing cover.
