Please Help me with this miserable carb problem

Zenith carb on Farmall B. Had it rebuilt, but soon had problem with it flooding. Found pin came out of float, fixed that, now it can't seem to get gas. I took the carb to local dealer who said the needle screw was hung up. Put in back on, started fine. Shut it off, ran it up and down the road & across the field, no problem. Parked it last night, popped right off this morning, then quit. Took out plug on the bottom, no fuel again! What can I do to stop the hang up?

On a gravity flow carb, the neoprene tipped needle will stick because there is no fuel pump pressure against it.

I'd try to find a straight metal N/S setup if at all possible.

i have run into that situation also. its like the rubber tip on the needle sticks in the seat.i took it out and cleaned it with 4d40 and has been good since. you could give the carb a small tap on the bowl, that should let the needle drop to get you running again,if your stuck.

heres something else you can try, i ran in to this with a buddys yamaha 4 wheeler, needle kept hanging up. looking at the needle, there was a very small burr in it, and the barrel of the seat had some fine scratches, it was just enough to hang up the needle. i took some polishing compound, a "q" tip (yup like fer cleaning yer ears) and a drill, and polished the bore and the sides of the needle. so far its working good. dunno if its your problem, but worth a look see. be sure to clean all the old compound out when yer done.

I have a few of those all metal needle and seat kits. NOS, in the envelope, IH, a garage find. These fit the H carb though. Aren't they the same in a B?

How often does that tractor get used, how old is the gasoline in the tank, and how clean is the tank? Gasoline will go bad in three months or less, usually less, and stale gasoline will gum up the workings in a carburetor quicker than anything I know of.

For what it's worth, it is virtually impossible for the float pin to fall out on those Zenith carbs until the top and bottom are seperated.

Probably have to replace that viton tipped needle and seat. Just don't force it into the seat. I dealt with the same thing by using the needle in the seat to adjust the float level. By pushing down on the float pushed the needle tight against the seat. Maybe your rebuilder did that. Better to use pliers to adjust the level. I tried WD and antiseize on the needle tip with no help.

So what do you do if you replace the needle and seat, and it still sticks?

I'm on the third needle/seat on my Super H. They have all stuck. The float does not appear to be getting hung up.

You can't get the all-brass needles anymore, and the old one leaked.
