Super C: The tractor seemingly is ready to go. As soon as you ask it to do anything other than haul it"s own weight over level ground it start"s to sound like it"s running on just a couple of cylinder"s. The governor, does kick in during these moment"s of stress and the tractor will pull through, just barely. This is in first gear going up a steep hill.
All reply"s welcome.

Maybe starving for fuel? My H was doing something similar. Would idle and pull itself fine for days, but would sputter and lose power when you go up an incline or try to engage PTO. Took carb off, took it apart and cleaned it, blew out fuel line, and cleaned sediment bowl and it"s running well now. I"ve mowed with it several times since. I think a coil going bad could cause the same symptoms? Just a couple thoughts, good luck!

check for crud in tank and bowl. Make sure your bowl has a screen on top in the tank.
Make sure low and high carb adjustments are set properly. Does it spit black smoke at this time.

Check ignition parts first--points, plugs, rotor& cap.
I'm with Del & EM on fuel starvation. We had to set our SC's float 3 times to get it right. When it won't pull, it most likely is float level too low. Do things improve if you pull the choke out??
Just an outside chance that the valves need gapped???

Went back and checked the distributer, coil, points, and everything in between. I tried adding a little choke to no avail.

Thanks, since much of the original wiring is starting to fall apart I plan to start replacement soon. It is the original coil and does show considerable external wear.

In those moments of stress there is black exhaust smoke. Not a constant stream, but, there non the less. The first time I saw this I checked the plugs. They weren't burnt, but, were very black and dry for the most part. There was no oily build up around the electrode. There was a little sediment within the barrel, though. I replaced all the old fuel system between the tank and carburator.
The fine tuning of the carburator have been a problem the only place I've been able to find out anything about the Zenith, on my tractor was under new and rebuilt carb's for C, and Super C. Neither my shop manual or Operator's Manual, show this carburator.
