Farmall H Alternator Conversion

I have a Farmall h that has been switched to 12v with a generator. The front bearing failed just before I was to cross the Mackinaw Bridge. I cut the belt and made the crossing, but no I think I would like to upgrade to a alternator. Does anyone know what kind of automotive application these slim line alternators that come in the conversion kits come from. If I knew that I could just go to an auto parts store and buy one

Thanks for any help.

To add to what little john said, the delco alternator to use is the model 10SI. I think the Napa part number is something like 1017 or something like that. If you just tell your parts man you need an alternator off a late 70's or early 80's pickup they will get you what you need. We have 2 H's and an M with these alternator's on them an they fit right in under the hood with NO problem whatsoever. You can use the original H generator bracket and use a piece of all thread an some washers to get the alternator where it needs to be to line up with the belt. Our conversions have been on for close to 20 years and they are still going as stong as the day we put them on.

Hello Bill,
you really need to make a good bracket to fit a delco under an H hood. I make a copy of the one Lucky Leaman sells on Ebay, I think I should start buying them from him because I don't think I can make them as cheap as he sells them. You can use a one wire or three wire delco I would use the three wire or you will have to speed up the engine to get the one wire to start charging.
If you use the three wire alt buy a plug to go with it the red wire goes to the big battery terminal the white to the key switch, I put a diode in line if you are using the orinal IH push/pull switch or the tractor won't shut off.
then hook the wire comming from the amp gauge to the big post. also you will need a 1/2 wide pully on the alt to match your belt. If you can't get the parts let me know I have them instock.
Thanks Ed
