Problem with my C.

Drove my C yesterday- the first time since last fall-- and noticed a loud "ticking" sound seemingly coming from the area of the torque tube. Stops when the clutch is depressed both setting still and rolling. All systems seem to operate normally. Any idea what may be causing this? (Noise wasn't present when I parked it for the winter)

Bert:
Possibly an input bearing failing in the transmission. Check tranny fluid level and run it for several hours. Maybe it will clear up. I had a pto bearing buzz that went away after several hours in a tractor that had sat up for several years. However, ticking from a bearing is usually more serious - often means a ball has escaped from the bearing cage.

I would doubt it would be a tranny bearing as it would probably still be clicking when you pushed the clutch in with the tractor still rolling. My guess would be a loose clutch finger or similar. Chances are that giving it some use wouldn't hurt. Sam

I would take the inspection plate off the bottom and have a look. When I split my dads old C it was full of sticks and other junk that the mice had been putting in it for years. And you can grease the throw out bushing while your on your back. May not be your problem but worth a look.

No matter what I would crack upen the inspectin plate and look around I agree with many of the posts "clicks" can go away with use and they can be indcators of further issues check the oil for shavings and check the oil level. then inspect the inards throught that plate and keep us posted as to what you have found this is really needful of further inspection.
