Farmall C Generator.

Hello Folks; Can a muti-tester be used to check the output of a generator? I checked both posts to ground separately and the meter shows no reading. Does this sound correct? Thanks in advance!!!

I believe if you hold a screwdriver to the back of the generater housing with tractor running it will pull it like a magnet if it is working.

Sounds like it is not charging. What does the ampmeter show? Ground the field terminal and see if your ampmeter shows a charge. If it does, the regulator is bad. If not the generator is bad.

Hey teddy52food; Thanks for the info. This quick check will let me know what is happening. Thanks.

EDW, Put that volt meter on the battery and when shes setting the voltage ought to be 6.3 volts if a 6 volt and 12.6 if a 12 volt. Then start it and run it at high RPM and iffffffffffff shes charging the battery voltage should rise, 6.5 to 7 or so if a 6 volt and 13 to 14 or so if a 12 volt. If it does that its charging, if not its NOT.

To see if the non charging is due to a bad genny or a bad Voltage Regulator see Para 5 in my Troubleshooting Procedure.

Heres a URL Link for my Troubleshooting for non charging
