live power on M

I read a while back where somebody was putting live power (live pto) on an M. What all is entailed to do that or should I just go another route.

Did they say "live pto", or "live power", as in live hydraulics?

On the Farmall M a fella can install a hydraulic pump on the cam gear just forward of the distributor or magneto drive gear. This gives "live hydraulics" that do not quit operating when you push the clutch in.

There was also an M&W hand clutch installed through the tranny that would disengage the transmission but allow the PTO to be independant?

Can someone else verify that? I am unsure.

Arod: The M&W device gave some of the advantage of live PTO. It allowed one to stop without stopping the PTO, but you couldn't change gears. Factory IPTO, can not be installed on an M, your correct.

You are also right about live hydraulics.

1. Split the M at the bell housing.
2. Send the entire rear end to the scrapyard.
3. Replace the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate with one from an MTA, 400, or 450.
4. Purchase a complete rear end from an MTA, 400, or 450.
5. Install the rear end on the tractor.

That's the only way it can be done. Not very practical.
