Can a D414 be put into a 1066 including adding the turbo to the D414? I am told there is something different internally between the 2 engines with the oil to the pistons that would prevent doing this?

Thanks

I asked the same question today of an IH mechanic. He said there some oilers that, i think he said, spray oil on the under side of the pistons on the turbo charged engines. He said they can be added to the non turbo engine.

From everyone I have talked to it will. Only diff. is HP and piston coolers. If you are needing a D414, I have one for sale out of my old 815 combine. Chad, 205-826-0316

The D414 and DT414 have the same engine block with the exception of two cooling jets per piston on the turboed block versus one per piston on the NA (naturally aspirated) block. The holes for the extra jet on the NA block will have a steel ball plugging them.

The turbo charged engine uses different pistons and rings. Diesel engines use keystone rings in the top two grooves while the NA engine uses a keystone ring in the top groove and a standard ring in the second groove. The turboed engine uses an oil pump with a wider rotor assembly. The rotor width was increased in both turboed and NA engines later in production. The water pump on the turboed engine will have eight vanes while the NA engine most likely came with a four vane impeller. Common practice is to use the turbo water pump on either engine.

Cylinder heads are different between the two models. The turboed head has different cooling jets pressed into it. NA heads can be identified by an H cast into them covered by the intake manifold.

There are differences, but it won't prevent the swap.

Farmers have been adding turbos to 966s since they first hit the bricks and they run/last just fine.

Thanks for the replies.Chad - I have an engine already (also from an 815), and a 1066 with blown engine. My next question is, if I put the D414 in the 1066 and add the turbo to it, will I have less power than the original DT414 (when it was working correctly)? and is there a risk of ruining the engine if I don't add the oil jets?  Or is it not that big of a deal to add them. Thanks again.
