I have my Grandads Farmall 560 Butane (LP) tractor. It hasn't been started in 15 years. Besides changing the oil and the obvious things what else would people recommend? If I cant get it started, who works on these things.

lot of schools of though on this one. i would think after sitting 15 years, you are looking at stuck rings, maybe rusted valve stems, dry bearings. first thing i would do is drain the oil and take a look at it for water. pick up a gallon jug of pb blaster penetrating oil. pull the valve cover, soak the valve train real good, also pull the spark plugs and get 3-4 tablespoons of pb blaster in each cylinder and let it sit for a couple days. then pressurize the oiling system (a pump type garden sprayer with a hose hooked to the oil pressure line works good). get oil in the gallery and on the bearings. maybe flush the motor with kerosene. refill with fresh oil and a new filter and bump the starter, see if it breaks loose. if it does, then clean up the fuel system and ignition system, and see if it will start.

Thanks Glenn! I will notify on how things go. I am not expecting much. My main thing is getting some fuel to the thing. I need a tank that is man portible and fills with liquid. I am hoping I can get one from the local gas company. Also, I heard I need a bleeder valve for the gas outlet to fill the liquid inlet. Anyone have any good resources on parts and such for this thing?

I have a JD 630LP that I fill from a small 5gal tank. Found out that the new bottles w/the triangle type handle will not work. They have a different valve in them. Look for the old type handle. Have a hose made to fit both the bottle and the tractor, open the valve and turn the bottle upside down on the hood of the tractor. This is the way I do it. The liquid will drain out of the bottle and leave the vapor in the bottle. Its a lot of work and dont get in a hurry, usually takes me over night to get the liquid into the tractor tank.
A LP dealer should make up a transfer hose for you with the cost of materials.

Reagan, A lot of things need to happen beside what you mentioned. Wires, points, condensor, Plugs, gap settings. Now the tank needs a shot of lp, if there is none left in the tank after all the yrs. attempt a fill like described above or just run a rubber hose from an old style tank to the Vaporizer.
Shoot a little oil in each cylinder to lube up the rings and not try a dry start after all these yrs.
To Start, Leave the Liquid and Vapor Valves Closed.start turning the engine over to start, then just crack open the vapor valve. if she starts, good. if not check to see if you are getting fire, etc, etc, etc.
If you have questions feel free to call me and lets visit about it. My # is 512-577-3837.
Hope this helps.

After siting for 15 years you really need to overhaul the LP converter before trying to use the tractor. It is quite likely that the diaphragm will be stiff and probably leaks.

A LP fork lift tank works well on tractor and can be easily handled problem is it only holds about 7 gallons.

Thanks guys! John do you live in Austin? I saw the area code and though you might. I live in Austin too. Probably will give you a call sometime. The tractor is up in Hillsboro so I will only have weekends to fix it up slowley.

Reagan.
