HOW DO YOU SET H IGNITION TIMING

I recently had troble with my 1943 h not running correctly i rebuilt the carb but it still doesnt run right does anyone knoe the settings for the carb adjusting screws and how do you check and/or adjust the timing on. I thought it might not hurt to check it?

Tighten both screws all the way in, the back the idle out 1 1/2 turns and the main (bottom screw) 3 turns.

There are a pair of timing marks on the fan belt pulley and a pointer on the right side, just in front of the governor. To get in the ballpark on timing, make sure #1 cylinder is on the compression stroke, then turn the engine slowly until the points just open (the rotor should be pointing to the #1 wire). The timing pointer should be close to the first mark as it's coming over the top of the pulley; adjust the distributor as needed to have it break when the mark is close to the pointer.

You can not use a timing light to set the timing.

The Operator's Manual is still available for this tractor. It gives step by step instructions for setting the timing and a lot of other maintenance items.

You can find the manuals at your local Case-IH dealer, in the Marketplace Section of this website (see the top of the right hand column), or at binderbooksdotcom.
