Started up H after sitting two months, cranked over as usual ,fired up ,drove across the yard and stalled it.Hit the starter button, nothing but a slight click out of the switch, which while repeatedly pushing got hot.Thought switch might be bad bought another ,same result.Used test light to see if i have power to the starter ,i do, looking for any suggestions to where i should look next. Thanks for any help

Starter drive MAY be jammed into the ringgear.

With ignition "OFF", put tranny in high gear and rock the tractor back and forth 'til the engine turns a bit kicking the drive out of the way.

Or, loosen the starter mounting bolts to free it up.

If you have power to starter, check connections...grounds...all of them, if you have good connections, then you might have starter brushes hanging up. Have you tried putting voltage direct to starter?

Starter maybe jammed or you may have poor connections some place. I would pull the starter to make sure its not jammed and also clean the area it bolts to because thats where it gets its ground and that can be a problem at times. BTDT

Starter jamb is likely. Rock it in High at the top of the rear wheels (violently) till the fan moves a bit, then try it. (as noted below) Case IH has a clutch type drive to replace the inertia drive. (others sell it as well) This is a major improvement of a common issue. JimN

I've had this exact problem with my M. Even bought a new switch to begin attacking the problem. But, in my case, it was the battery terminals that were dirty. They looked clean from the outside, but when I took off the cables, the posts were black and 'sealed' with crud. Brightened them up, and away we went. This has happened twice. The M had been sitting and when I tried to start her up, there was that 'click' and smoke coming from one of the battery cables. Again, cleaned it up, and away we go! Still have the new switch just in case.
