I figured I'd post this in the Red Room, too.
I thought I'd give everybody a heads up on the knife guards (MC2041z - single) Case IH is selling nowadays to for the International 100 - 1300 balanced head mowers. They're forged & don't bend, no matter what you do. You can pound on them 'till the ledger plates rattle loose & you can bend them until they snap... My only advise would be to shim them up .010" - .030" behind the bolt. This should bring the plate up, sufficent enough, to contact the front of the knife & give you your .014" - .031" clearance under the knife at the back of the leder plate. Or, if time permits, find some n.o.s. guards. They should still be malleable steel & not hardened. I spent the last two weeks rebuilding (beating up) a cutter-bar & thought y'all might like to know my findings. If you already knew this, my apologies. - Mike
