Hello all-
I have seen Bob's wiring diagrams and will use them, but I have a 44'H with magneto, generator(regulator on top), electric starter. Just had the generator redone and now want to redo wiring with a new harness. The last owner wired the field wire (off generator) to the rear light screw on the switch instead of the resistor. Anyone have any insight on why this would be done. Also the headlights are also connected to the rear light screw.

There are places to get full harness that look exactly like the original. You can get them to set it up for where ever the regulator is.. I am not sure if they have them through here. But I know of other store's..

Ya-
Janet at Porch Electric sells them for about $80.00 for most tractors. I just hadn't seen the wire set to the rear light screw. I thought you had to run it through the resistor.

The store I am thinking talking about is out of Michigan. But I can't remeber how to spell there name.. Its called Stieners or something like that.. The reason it goes through the resistor is for high and low bean ( or dim) Sounds like they just have the lights either on or off.. The rear light doesn't go off the resistor...

Yep--
Like Steiners alot, but they wanted about $50.00 more for the harness than Porch Electric. Thanks for the info on resistor.

Hey any time I can help out.. Yea we got ours from I think its call Restoration supply out of massachusetts. I can't remeber what was the price but it was worth it insted of DIY.. We did that on our W4 but I think we are going to change it for the look of it..

You should check out Porch Electric online. They have a pretty nice website and make the wiring restoration quality.

Its because he didnt know any better. The field is grounded thru the resistor at the bottom of the sw for hi-charge. I am assuming you still have the cut-out as a regulator doesent need the field goung to the sw. The replacement regulators i use have the instructions how to wire when replacing cut-out with a regulator.Does your owners manual have the wiring dia in the back as most of them do.

If I'm not mistaken, those wiring diagrams also give you the size of the wire? Go out and buy several feet of each wire size, along with the proper terminal ends, and make your own wiring harness. Save a bunch of money and get an education at the same time.
