Clutch operation of 686

I have a question about the clutch on Farmall 686. If the TA is engaged and I disengage the clutch the tractor is free wheeling. When the TA is in direct drive and I disengage the clutch it feels as if there is some sort of breaking and the tractor stops. The clutch seems to operate fine - no grabbing or chattering - really smooth. Is this normal function of the clutch for this tractor or is the clutch gettin' ready to go south. Would appreciate any help.

(quoted from post at 00:54:11 09/12/08) You need to ajust the ta so it releases with the clutch down and the ta lever forward.

I've adjusted the clutch and the ta according to the manual. I don't know what I've done wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Loosen the arm between the clutch shaft and the ta shaft.Get clutch free travel set. Then adjust the ta free travel to the correct distance by turning the slotted clevis. When that is done with the ta ahead & the clutch up adjust the arm that is slotted up against the clutch arm.I have had to sometimes take the arm off and grind the slot longer to get it right.

Update on the ta. I went out this afternoon and removed the inspection cover in front of the battery box to check the ta clutch and throw out bearing. What I found was the fingers almost wore off of the pressure plate. Thats why I was having trouble adjusting the ta. It appears the the throw out bearing wasn't adjusted properly or it is shot. I just don't really know not being able to inspect if more closely. Thanks for all your help.
