IH 766 tractor

I was trying to figure out if the IH766 tractor runs the PTO at the 540RPM for Balers. All I can see from some posted specs is 1000 RPM. If it only runs at 1000RPM, is there a reducer of some sort you can buy to make it 540RPM?

Thanks Allan.

Kinda still new to the whole tractor terminology. When you say both shafts, are you saying that the tractor has 2 different PTO's in the back of the tractor?

Yes,

The bottom corse splined shaft is for 540 implements and the fine-splined shaft runs 1,000 rpm stuff.

If your tractor still has the shield on, it is probably mounted in the lower position, which covrs up the 1K shaft.

You'd better get it bought before I do....... :>)

I used to have a tractor just like that. Only downside is the noise; that engine absolutely "screams" and ya gotta wear the ear protectors.

Otherwise, they are one heck of a tractor.

The advertiser is off on the horsepower unless he really has the pump turned up. Our diesel was about 78 h.p. from the factory. It know has an engine from a 1086 in it. Same as a 1066.

Tony: A 766 to work 16 acres, you've got some hard lessons ahead. Buy yourself a good 35 hp diesel Utility. Farming, even the most intense operations only require 1 hp per acre. What your doing, can be done with 1/4 hp per acre.

That tractor is getting might old Tony and it might be nothing but trouble, and yes I am talking from experience. Hugh has sound advice for you. The price is right but do you know anything about the engine, the transmission, the TA? Rebuilds on those and you can have a $10,000 tractor real quick.
