Farmall 460 Clutch

I have a Farmall 460 and the clutch is stuck. When I start it and push the clutch in nothing happens. It will start in gear but the clutch does not work. A friend of mine a few years ago told me that they will rust up and you can start it in gear and hold the break down and it will free it up. My breaks are not good enough to hold it. How much trouble is it to break it apart and free it up?

you can remove the starter and spray some brake cleaner on the clutch , then block the clutch pedal down and see if it will release. otherwise, drag the tractor outside, point it in a safe direction, leave the clutch blocked down, start it and drive it around. it may pop loose. other wise, hook a disc or plow up to it and drop er in the ground with the clutch blocked down.

First off block the pedal down for a few days, then stat it in gear and take it for a drive, it will probably brake free if you drive it around for a while just be sure your out where you can drive it for awhile. Also if you could hook up something heavy behind it when you drive around that helps. Another thing you can do that works some times is pull the starter off and spray brake cleaner into the clutch area and that some times will brake it free. The from now on when you part it block the pedal down so it doesn't do that again. That's a very common problem on old tractors BTDT many times

Once you've got the starter off, it's pretty easy to just fix it, rather than hoping the brake cleaner will do the trick. Get a thin-bladed kitchen knife (preferably one that the Mrs. is not particularly fond of), heat it and bend it at a 90 degree angle about 2 inches from the tip. Tie the clutch pedal down. Then you can work through the starter hole, in the openings between the pressure plate and flywheel, and work the knife blade in between the clutch disc and flywheel, rocking the knife gently as you go. Rotate the flywheel with a large screwdriver on the gear teeth as you get each section freed up, and you'll soon have it loose. Save the "tool" so you don't have to trouble the domestic partner for another, next time.

Thanks guys. I took the tractor back out yesterday after spraying it down again on Friday. Bushhogged for a couple of hours and hit each brake pedal real hard and when I hit the right brake the clutch freed up. Thanks and just wanted to give you an update.
