My dad has 2 Farmall A's. His oldest one is a 1942. Was this the 1st year of electric starter? His has the crank start handle still with the tractor. thanks

i have a 1940 that came with the hole in the bellhousing with a cover over the hole but it did not have a ring gear on the flywheel also my neighbor has one that if i read the serial number is a 40 also and it does not have the hole on the bellhousing

I have seen a 1939 Farmall F20 with a starter. Don't know if it came with the factory that way, but it definitely had a starter.

FAA 18322 March 25,1940 was the first starter from factory. But field conversions were available from dealer. This from Guy Fays book.

there were kits avalible for the F series tractors but the first that probly came factory with electric start was probly the 1939 letter series

According to my parts book, electric starters were an option from IHC on later model W-30s.
Also on later model F-12s and F-14s, I believe.
