Hydraulic Filter Mystery . . . . 240 U

This is the hydraulic screen and filter out of my 240U. I've tried the Baldwin and WIX filter sites, and they show a tandem filter set instead of a single filter like I've got. Their's also are larger in diameter (mine is 2 1/8 inches in diameter x 4 inches long). Both of their filters don't add up to my length either.

IH also shows a tandem filter (#375078R91) and wants $42 for the double filters and screen basket. But I assume they are like the others. Does anyone else have an arrangement like mine? Can you tell me where you get replacement cartridge filter elements?

I can't help you except the filter on the left looks like an oil filter for the engine more than for the hydraulics. Looks like the one for an H or M oil filter. Maybe look in there and see if one of them was left out in the past before you got the tractor.

looks like a farmall cub oil filter. i havent got a spare otherwise i'd measure one for you.

Looks like Wix et al decided 375078R91 was the same as 375085R91, the filter used on 340 & some larger tractors. They cross both IH numbers to the same pair of filters. The $42 CaseIH filter is probably the right one.

In 1968 375078R91 cost $1.24.

Just wondering if you solved this problem? I too see it needs the 375078R91 and haven't had any luck finding a cross-reference, or even an on-line source for the filter. I just acquired a 1958 240U for my son's first project and fluids changes are first on the list.
