Farmall A problem

well guys i tried the water mist in the carb to remove the carbon - looks good. but i pulled the plugs and the are covered with oil. When i run the tractor under load it runs great, but when it runs without a load it smokes like hell.
suggestions

My guess is oil leaking by the valve guides. When under load vacuum is at minimum and without a load it is at maximum. This sucks the oil past the valves guides. Someone had an in-place fix for this last week on here, but I'd pull the head and have a valve job done. Make sure they put guide inserts in, or get them knerled so they can seat.

Give his a try. Its a $2 gamble but might work. Mix 5 gal. of gas and 1 QT. of tranny fluid and run that and also put in 1/2 QT tranny fluid in the oil. Run it till you run out of gas. If it helps good if not then its time for some work. Oh by the way if you do the head do the rings etc or you will probably blow the bottom out. Things wear all at the same time and if the valves are bad so are the rings etc. BTDT and learned if you work on the top but not the bottom you will be soon

If it sat for say a year plus what I told you may well help it a lot. A $2 gamble is well worth it because other wise it could be a $1000 plus rebuild
