300u hydraulics overheating

ran the 300u today and the steel hydraulic lines felt hotter than the should be. I only ran the tractor for about 45min when discovered. I was not using the hydraulics much while running. this tractor has power steering if that makes any difference. Was wondering what would cause this, and what the fix might be? Any ideas welcome and much appreciated. Thanks tb.

A control handle not centering will do it, as will a stuck steering proportinin valve. The single acting/double acting controlls on the end of the valves must be fully in place as well. Good luck, JimN

j your reply leads me to another simple question. I have cylinders hooked to all the control valves, if there was one stuck un-centered woul that cylinder move? If so looks like i have to get to the steering valve.

Hi TB, 50 years ago when we had a 300U, when the hydraulic lines became hotter than normal it was time to clean the wire mesh inlet filter in the hydraulic reservoir under the seat.

A cylinder all the way to its end will not move in that direction, so it could be that. The screen could be plugged, The cover under the seat needs to be removed to get to it. JimN

thanks for all the info. I have been putting off pulling the hydraulic tank cover, sounds like all my hydraulic questions are pointing towards cleaning the pick up screen. Im a little nervous about doing it, but I guess it has to be done. thanks tb.
