I understand that the gas engine in a farmall model 504 does not have cylinder sleeves. Is this much of a problem or can a machine shop install sleeves if needed?
I am interested in buy one of these models.
This particular tractor runs very well, with low hours, but I don't know at this time if the meter works. What do you guys think

Thanks

I suppose sleeves could be installed, not sure on that. Generally the cylinders are just bored oversive like an auto engine. Standard oversize rebuild kits are available.

Those just get bored out and put oversize pistons in like an automotive engine. Should be able to get pistons in .010" .020" and .030" oversized...

Find your pistons BEFORE you have it bored. O/S pistons are NLA from IH. I was unable to find any in the aftermarket either.

A freind of mine had his C153 rebuilt a few years ago. I need to check and see where they guy that rebuilt it got his parts.
He did a good job btw

J Emery: The only good 504 gas engine is the one you don't buy. If I were buying a 504 gasser, I would pay and treat it as though I bought a tractor without an engine. I'd run it until the engine died, or I couldn't tolerate it, then I'd find a good sleeved C-169 or C-175 from a 300 or 350.
