gas 460 utility power steering failure

I replaced the power steering and hydraulic pumps, the hydraulic pump works but the power steering pump doesn't. when you turn the steering wheel it act funky and it seem the power is trying to catch up if you turn it slowly... The hydraulic filter failed and parts of it broke apart. The bypass trap was full of particles but the screen in the power steering pump was clean.

Any suggestions?

There are junk parts floating in it (probably the pump at the wheel) back flushing, purging and moving the valves may remove the fouling, but disassembly and recleaning may have to be done. JimN

thanks, we are going to pressure test the system next week maybe that will give us some indication what's going on. I'm not sure which pump you are refering to, are you looking at the end of the steering post? I like your idea of back flushing before taking it apart...clark
