H bolster seal

I started to put together the steering shaft inside of the bolster last night and it seems like I am missing a seal of some kind that goes on the lower shaft where it goes through the bolster. I have a gap around the shaft above the thrust bearing. It talks about a seal in the service manual but I don't see a part listed.
Am I over looking something? Anyone have a part number for that seal?

randy, i looked up in the case-ih online parts search, looks like the early h has a felt seal in there, then the later h has a spacer as best as i can tell from the diagram here is a link, go to us, the click on search for parts, enter farmall h.

On the bottom of the bolster, my H had a retainer and a felt. I presume the felt is to keep some dirt out and grease in...

I looked there too Glennster but really don't see what I am missing.
I ordered all new parts for that shaft (not cheap) and there is no felt or seal that will fit that bottom opening.

try these guys carter and gruenwald, they sell a complete rebuild kit for the h and m bolsters for about 150 dollars, bearings seals bushings ect. they prolly can tell you what you are missing

Randy, My old original 1941 H "Instruction Manual" has illustrated parts diagrams for all systems. It shows, in order top to bottom, , Retainer # 49657D; felt washer#49656, Bearing # 49659D, and lower bushing #49658.
