Yesterday late afternoon I drove the 1949 Cub! It is 4 months shy of being 60 years old and I have no idea how many years it has been neglected, but I climbed on the seat and started it up after about six weeks of refurbishing. It did not start at first. Finally I remembered to pull on the ignition switch. Then it started right away. Awesome sound.
Immediately I saw oil coming out at the top of the oil filter case. Oil pressure gauge did move max to the right. Later I saw gasoline dripping from the bottom of the carburetor. Going to remove it and look inside this morning. I think it can only be three parts that would allow it to drip gas.
I used my lathe to make a knob for the ignition switch; however, had not put it on before starting the Cub and forgot about the ignition.

It is nice to have tools! Having the right tool makes a lot of tasks easier.
Today I put that ignition knob on the Cub and worked on the carburetor. Hopefully I got the drip stopped.
After a while I will make a new gasket for the oil filter case.

Always shut off the fuel at the tank when not running it. This is safety as well as limiting the leak (fixing the leak is a good thing, but a gravity tank like yours pressurizes the needle and seat in the carb all the time when the valve is open. JimN
