Farmall spark plug problem

I have a Farmall A that keeps fouling out plugs. I put in hot plugs but every now and again it starts missing. I pull the plugs and there is always one with a piece of carbon fouling it out. any suggestions

Well, you've probably got a lot of carbon in your engine. There are treatments which you spray into the intake to knock it out, or just use a controlled water injection to get rid of it.
Next, you are either burning oil and causing your plugs to foul, or you are running too rich and causing your plugs to foul. I cannot tell from the information you provided. So, either rebuild your engine, or lean out your carb. Maybe both. Otherwise, you are going to have a recurring problem of the same type as you describe. mike

If carbon fouled, check the usual suspects; air cleaner clean?, choke off?, carb ok and adjusted correctly?, timing correct?, valves adjusted?

Howdy
Could be carboned up bad, we used to tell customers to take them out on the highway and run them hard (dont think that would work for tractors, especially if you have 75 MPH speed limit where you live }. Another idea is use some GM Top Engine Cleaner, available at GM dealers, its made especially for carboned up top ends.

A "piece of carbon" indicates a fuel mixture problem. Carbon is unburnt fuel. Oily, greasy wet plugs would be a valve/ring problem. Try leaning the fuel/air mixture. Also go up one more range hotter plu til you get burnt carbon.(orange/white)

Also try cleaning the plugs, then start the tractor and run at high idle. Shut off with ignition while at high idle. Check plugs.

Then clean the plugs and run at low idle. Shut off with ig switch. Will tell you where the rich mixture is.

There must be a lot of carbon in the engine. It the carb and mag/distributor are working properly, buy a can of Seafoam, put some in the gas and some in the engine oil and run the engine long enough for the Seafoam to clean the carbon.

Did you check compression? Could be a carb or float issue. Mine was fouling plugs, turned out the float was sticking open.
