manifold gaskets

I am getting ready to put new manifold gaskets on my old model M. Is a gasket cement such as RTV silicone needed or will it do find without anything?

I guess you could go either way. I do not use any sealer. I just clean both surfaces well, install the gaskets and torque in the proper sequence at whatever the torque specs the manual calls for. So far,this way of doing it has served me well.

Is the manifold warped? If you have a machine shop in the neighborhood it would be a good idea to have it planed.
No sealer required; just make sure ALL old gasket material is removed from head & manifold.
I like to use a large mill file to check surfaces for straightness & it works very well for scraping too.
