Cub Coil Kluge

While finishing up before testing whether the '49 Cub will start (it was dead when I bought it), I decided to fasten the coil to something other than the hood. After cleaning out the holes on the distributor which, I think, are for mounting the coil, I found a piece of scrap aluminum. I used my mini-mill to clean up the aluminum a bit as well as to mill the holes for three bolts 5/16X18 bolts. Today is the day I put fuel in the test gas tank and see what happens when I pull the starter lever.

The coil normally sits directly on top of the distributor, bolted to those holes you mentioned, through the strap that's wrapped around it.

It's a tight fit, but you can probably eliminate that honkin' chunk of aluminum and get the coil out of your field of view by bolting it direct to the distributor.

The coil bolts directly to the distributor on many tractors. The Cub requires a plate that functions similarly to the one Michael made. Otherwise, there would be interference from the generator bracket.
