Goin' by the letters and numbers on My 504, I've got the 4.5 pump....I've built a 6ft. 6in disc that the lift will just barely lift off the ground 3 ins. I've got a 3 bottom plow that it has trouble with....Fluid level is right (7 in. down from filler hole ) I've put in a new filter. I don't have pressure gagues but I might can borrow one.....If I have to, I'll buy one. Can a pump be rebuilt? Any ideas on what to check next? This is a good tractor, I just need stronger and faster liftin'

Thank Yaw'll

Test your pressure and flow. I bet you need a new pump. The bodys of the pump are aluminum and the steel rotors wear into them so rebuilding will not work. I had a 504 gas for several years and it had plenty of hydraulic power.

Bill: I think your hitch pump is much larger than that. It might be 9 gpm, but I'm more inclined to think 12 gpm. I know the 460, 560 and 656 had 12 gpm and with 17 gpm optional.

Your problem is the pump, no question. That 504 should lift those implements full height in 1 second. 504 had it's weaknesses but hydraulics was not one of them.

A 504 usually has a 12 GPM main pump for the P/S and remotes and a 4.5 GPM pump for the hitch. 17 GPM main and 7.5 GPM (I think) piggyback for thi hitch were optional. My 504 has the 4.5 hitch pump, it's slow but not weak. My money says you need a new pump.
