Help, i have a smtad that the ta works just fine in all gears except 5th low side, some times it works ok , then it will start out ok but will come to a stop?

Does the TA in the other gears work ok under load? 5th is a pretty good load by itself, I bet it slips in the other gears with a load.

As CNKS indicates, the TA needs help. Fifth just makes it work. It will be stressed the same in all gears when pulling hard enough to pull the engine down to max power. A ramp and roller set and seals and a new TA clutch will probably make it new. Kevin Meier on this forum sells both rebuilt, and parts, at a reasonable cost. TAs are worth their weight in operational value. Do it. JimN

If you are rebuilding a old style TA, put a sprag kit in it and forget about it.
