mower question thanks

old A

I posted yesterday, thanks for all the info & nice comments! One more question about my mower. I have the touch control, one lever (right) goes to chain that raises entire mower up & down, the other lever (left) controls raising the sicklebar up & down (just the blade where it pivots. Now, I have the chance to buy a loader for this tractor (off another International Super A), my question, can I use my hydraulics the way they are & install the loader? The loader has an articulating bucket (not drop bucket) if that matters....I just don't want to dissconnect any portion of what I already have. any info appreciated...also, how rare is my tractor? How many International Super A's are still around...how often do you see them in this shape? Lastly, what is a ballpark value of my tractor w/ the mower/ loader & set of plows? Thanks!!

Your use of a loader WO taking off the mower is (opinion) not recommended. The loader will need to use a remote adapter block and controls (placed between the existing steel lines, and the resivoir. This allows complete control of the loader, or other hydraulic accessories, without disabeling the existing hydraulic lift system. The mower will get in the road of many things and get broken (opinion) JimN

...other questions: My steering wheel, shifter knob, steering colum, headlights, generator, oil breather cap are all painted black, is this "correct" for a 49' SA? Also noticed that the rear lift was once painted blue & someone (at sometime) painted it red, was this likely done by a dealer? My other A is a 39' & it is all red. thanks, I'm having fun just playing with this one.

I agree with Jim as to the hydraulics. Your tractor is not rare, about 94000 were built. Everything was red from the factory, except the wheel rims, magneto, and steering wheel rim; the rockshaft might have been blue to match the blue on the implements it was used for, not sure about that one. There was also an International A, the industrial version of the Farmall. Some minor differences, yours is a Farmall.

If you are looking at an IH model 1000 loader, look it over REAL carefully. Going from memory only, I don't think that loader will mount up with the sickle mower in place without interference. Even if it will mount up, you will have a LOT of weight on the front end with the mower and loader too.

Josh definately has the INTERNATIONAL SUPER A. It has the diamond front axle, foot throttle, and highway mower. I've been told they came in red and industrial yellow. A bunch that were yellow were repainted red by the owners because red was more desirable. Great looking tractor Josh, wish my INTERNATIONAL SUPER A was as nice as yours.
