6 or 12 Volt Starter?

I'm a new owner of an H I bought for restoration. I need some 6/12 Volt information. My H has a magneto ignition so I am assuming there is no connection to the other electrics on the machine. Since the battery and box are missing at the moment, I would like to find out how I would know whether the starting system is 6 or 12 volt. Is there and easy way to tell?

Thanks!

"My H has a magneto ignition so I am assuming there is no connection to the other electrics on the machine." That is correct, the magneto is completely independant of any other tractor electrical systems.

A 6 volt starter will work fine on either 6 or 12 volts. Unless it has been replaced with a 12 volt starter at some point, it will be a 6 volt starter on an H.

ALL Farmall model H"s are 6 volt POSITIVE ground as originally delivered. Yours will be super easy to convert to 12 volt if you want to improve its starting.

Thank you for the replies. Two clues you gave me confirm it is still 6 Volt. 6 Volt Bulbs, and a big red positive wire to ground.

I plan to add a battery as it's a small price to pay for spinning an engine at the push of a button!
