The PTO shaft in my 44H was bent. I pulled it out and the dog-ears on the end of the shifter tube were worn/broken badly. The input from the transmission does not look bad.
I bought a salvage PTO assembly and have enough good parts to make one good one.
The bearing retainer snap rings on both assemblies were deformed really bad. I was surprised to see how easily they bent after I go them off. I don’t expect they take a lot of abuse once installed but I expected them to be more robust. I tried reforming them to an acceptable condition with a hammer and some pliers but they would not cooperate. Is this poor quality due to wartime or is it just a fact of that era?
I need to find the bearing retainer snap rings and the shifter shaft seal.
I am sure NAPA can help in the AM but I was wondering if anyone had any part numbers ie: carquest or something similar handy?
Thanks
