OK GUYS,WE JACKED UP THE REAR WHEELS ON THE 414 TO SEE IF THE WHEELS TURN. ONE WHEEL TURNS WHEN WE GO THROUGH THE GEARS. THE OTHER WHEEL DOES NOT TURN. THE BRAKE DRUM ON THE WHEEL THAT DOES NOT TURN SEEMS TO BE FREE. SO I THINK THE BRAKES ARE NOT LOCKED. DOES THIS APPEAR TO BE TRUE? WHAT SHOULD I CKECK NEXT? CAN THE COVER ON TOP UNDER THE SEAT BE TAKEN OFF TO ACCESS THE REAR END AND TRANSMISSION? THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS. DARYLg
 
Not real familiar with the 414 but I think the cover/liftbox on the rear just access the rear end. the one on the tranny just access the tranny.

with the back end up and engine off can you manually turn either wheel and get the other one to turn ?
 
Hi Daryl, do I read you correctly that you jacked up the tractor and went thru 1st to 4th and rev, gears and only the one wheel would turn?
Did you have both wheels jacked at the same time?
If both wheels jacked, did you try applying brake on wheel that turns?
I would still check out the stuck brake theory on the side that doesn't turn as the brake disks are on the end of the bull pinion shaft from the differential. It is easier to remove the brake drum than the whole hydraulic housing under the seat to access the differential. The brake drum can be removed by removing the adjusting screw and then removing the 3 or 4 bolts that hold the drum to the diff housing. Look at caseih.com parts B414 and you will see the parts inside the diff and also check out the following posting on the same page as this one for: Farmall M (LOCKED REAR END) as the same applies for B414 as it has Bull gear on end of each axle.

JIMB2,YES BOTH WHEELS ARE JACKED UP. DIDN,T TRY USING THE BRAKE ON THE FREE WHEEL. TRACTOR IS AT SONS INLAWS SO IT"S HARD FOR ME TO CHECH THINGS OUT. WILL HAVE TO MAKE A TRIP OVER TO LOOK AT IT. MY SON HAS LOOKED AT IT AND HAS GIVEN ME THE INFO. DARYLG
