Farmall M Rear Axle Seal

Rear axle seal is leaking. Tried putting extra grease in to pack it, but guess this Mississippi weather worked against it. Question is can when I take the plate off and replace the seal will the bearing stay in place? Thanks Harley

You have to take the tire and hub off, remove the 4 bolts holding the seal in place, and replace.

Be sure to clean the axle and seal area, use a seal protector when installing(heavy plastic works for me) and slightly re-position the seal so it rides on an unworn axle surface. I left the seal about 1/16"-1/8" out from fully inserting it into the cap which puts the seal lip nearer the bearing on an unused axle surface.
I put 3 seals on an SM-TA axle before using this tactic.
