M Carb Dumb Question Time (Again!)

[b:654c4848f0]***[u:654c4848f0]THANK YOU[/u:654c4848f0]***[/b:654c4848f0]

The M is running! As y'all said, the float was rubbing against the side of the bowl. A little tweak, and put her back together. A little shake to be sure the float was still free. Reassemble it all, and [b:654c4848f0]**ROAR!**[/b:654c4848f0] No smoke this time!

Unfortunately, now she's running lean. Popping and dying at higher RPMs. Added choke helps keep her running. I feel so stupid. Do I have this straight?
Barely touching on the idle speed (top one).
One turn out on the idle mix (middle one).
Three turns out on the power setting (lower one).

That 3 turns on the main or power is just a starting point. Each engine runs a little different and needs to be fine tuned. So slowly open it up a little at a time till you find the sweet spot for your tractor

With the engine warmed up at idle, turn idle mixture in and out until it idles smooth. Then at full throttle turn the main screw in until it runs rough, then out until smooth, plus maybe 1/4 turn or slightly more. Adjusted properly you can open the throttle rapidly from idle to full throttle and it will accelerate smoothly. All this is in the Operator's manual. You may have to do this more than once.

Hey Dan
Ive got you beat on DUMB, I started up my M after redoing the wiring on the coil, resistor, and dist, it started right up but was belching black smoke and eventually died. I decided to go in the house and cool off and let the tractor do the same. An hour later I went out to try it and when I pulled on the choke I found that I had not pushed it back in after I started it the last time. Alright , should start right up now, but no , she cranks over real good but wont pop, what the hell is wrong with this thing now? I sit there with my hands in my lap for a few minutes and then notice that I didnt pull on the ignition switch. She starts and runs good now? My only defense is that it was in the 90s and the sun was in my eyes (my story and Im sticking to it)

Funny how if you forget one little thing they will not run. I have even a bigger problem I have a good number of tractors and it hard to remember just what you have to do to each to get them to start. One you have to do his and the other something else. Guess maybe I need to have a chart so I can look at it before going to a tractor. LOL

Don't feel bad, my M started good, as usual, ran about 15 minutes and died, won't restart. Left it, gonna find out what is going on today. Thought it ran out of gas, put some in, still no start.

On the idle mixture, a little trick my Dad always used. Look at the smoke coming out at idle. Slowly turn the mixture screw in or out until it stops. Ive only had one that that didnt work on. You wont notice much change in the fast idle until you put something behind, or I never have. I just run it 5 turns out and let it ride.
