Planter Model

Does anyone know what model small point 2pt 2 row planters were made and is there somewhere a person could find an owners manual? I would also like to know what years the different models were made. Is there numbers stamped somewhere on the planters.

Roe: Most 2 point row planters were one of two versions; 251 was a two row corn planter, these were available as 2 point fast hitch, one point fast hitch or 3 point hitch.

There were tool bar planters made up using a 2.5" square tool bar of the desired length for the number of planters to be used. My 1968 buyers guide shows the 185 planting unit. I think there was and earlier unit much the same, possibly a two digit number. Those 185 units would seed a variety of small seeds, smaller than corn.

Go onto the Case tractor site and go do a parts search for planters and you will get to see all the models. I have some old planters and thats how I ran down the model numbers.

Hugh,

I have one of those 185 units but I have never used it. I have no idea where it came from or why it ended up here. Looks like if you had several of them they would be a good thing to use for planting several rows. Sure is a heavy little thing.

Randy: Those 185 units were bought to replace one row planters on offset tractors. Much more versatile and accurate on small seeds. Very common on small vegetable farms to see one 185 unit and an offset Farmall.

I have been looking and it looks like a 251 but the 2pt arms don't bolt onto the main frame. They are welded and then go on back to a pivit point for the guage wheels. So it doesn't look just like the picture. I am wondering if the picture on the case site is of a newer version after they started making them for 1pt and three point also. I don't know just a thought. Would anyone know where a person could get an owers manual.
Thanks for your help!
Bob

roeb: Someone has probably bought a used 3 point or 1 point version and changed it to 2 point. Happens all the time. I changed my Deere 246 from 3 point to IH 1 point fast hitch. Bet that one don't show up in any Deere books.
