OT - Wife Promoted!

Yeeeee Haaaah! My wife got the promotion! She's been doing the work for the last 6 months, and her boss noticed. She got the promotion!!! and a (I can't believe it!) 75% pay increase!!!! Yeeee Haaah!!! It's so rare that people get rewarded for proving that they can do the work! I am so thrilled they rewarded her!

Inequity in pay and recognition is so common that it seems impossible to find a place that actually cares. High praise for her, and her employer. JimN

I was so excited - I thought she had gotten a bigger tractor than you!

Just kidding. Congratulations to her and to her doing things the right way. Enjoy the company's acknowledgement for her efforts and perserverance. And the money will be nice as well. Dick

Once the WFE, live hydraulics, power steering and new paint are on her, Jodie will be driving the M. I'll then start on a little Case VAIW for myself.

Inequity in pay is a wearisome though popular myth. I can't think of a single case where a man and woman doing the same job are being payed different rates of pay. Not one. It would be nice of people did some of their own thinkning instead of mindlessly repeating what someone has told them. The political system is geared to just such a mentality.

I agree. I ran banks for 26 years and never saw it there. However, I was on guard to make certain it didn't happen. Must happen primarily at universities....

You can be assured it is not a myth. There are hundreds of employers getting away with it. I agree that it is found in higher ed, but between glass ceilings, and discrimination, it still exists in almost every field. Google Female pay inequity. Jim

Seventy-five percent? That"s fantastic. Congratulations!

Where I work (G.E.) they"re not big on giving raises -- not even cost-of-living adjustments. I"m working for 7.5 percent less now (inflation-adjusted) than I was making five years ago. With inflation on the upswing now, I just can"t afford to work there anymore. I"m sending out at least four resumes tomorrow.
