Unbelievable M!

It is a wonder my M was running at all! She must have really really wanted to keep working, despite everything stacked against her.

I pulled the carb awhile back, as you may recall from a previous posting. There were the remains of at least 2 gaskets between the upper and lower halves of the carb body. There were no gaskets between the needle/seat assembly and the carb body, which is probably why she flooded so easily. The power jet was loose! Yet she was still running! I don't know how!

I had to replace the water jacket cover because of a pin-hole leak, and discovered that the old cover did not have the baffles! It took well over an hour of scraping to get all the gunk off the gasket surface of the engine side. So, it was no wonder she leaked coolant! That is now back together.

Now, as I'm getting ready to put the carb back on, I noticed that the whole intake/exhaust manifold wiggled! Three of the nuts were close to hand tight, and the other three were not even touching the manifold!! Wow!

What a brave little M to keep running under all those adverse conditions! I bet she'll really run good now.

Of course, I need to go to the store and get some more nuts, etc. And I'll see if they have any more tractor paint at the same time. I still have the air cleaner and starter to put back on. If I don't get her running today, I'm sure to get her running tomorrow! Hee Hee!

Then, I can tip my A-frame hoist onto its wheels, off load the Wide Front End from my truck, and start installing the 3-point hitch.

Did you just buy this one? I hope you did not let it run down while you owned it. With the low compression these engines were very tolerant compared to more modern engines. Amazing. My brother had an H and he ran it until it would not start anymore. It could still pull but complete lack of compression, but still easily rebuildable and went for many more years after that.
