1951 W9--New addition to the rowcrop stable.

Found this advertised locally, had to jump on it. Don't see too many W9s in my area--big-time rowcrop country. Seller started it up for me with some difficulty. The fuel tank badly needs to be cleaned out. It may have original spark plugs (Champion W10), appears to have original plug wires, factory live hydraulics. Fronts are mis-matched but that's no big deal. Rears are old, but in very decent shape. Seat is not at all original, but pretty comfortable, so I may keep that. 12V conversion, but I forgot to check if it has an alternator. Missing one front wheel clamp.

The seller actually stated that he was going to try to clean the fuel tank some so it'll run when I load her up.

When she did run, sounded like some power.

Can't wait to get her home.

Congratulations! She looks pretty good and made all the more so with the live hydraulics. I wish mine had that.

Yes, the W-9s are "grunters", and I've had fun with mine in a couple of tractor pulls. As with your area, ours is row-crop country, too, although it must be said that there are three W-9s in our tractor club. Mine gets displayed the most.

They're big and comparatively bulky and IMO a handful doing jockeying work, but they weren't made for that. But, I think the 9 is the easiest tractor to load onto a trailer we have.

The more I actually step back and look at my W-9, the more I appreciate how "right" it looks: good proportions, and it sits square and level. Handsome is what comes to mind.

I have a 3" straight pipe on mine. When it's at shows and I start it up, its bark makes a lot of heads turn and look. Can't put a price on those brief seconds of glory.

Very nice original tractor. Get some original lights and a mate for the front tire and you've got yourself a candidate for best original in many places. They really are a beast to drive around but I'm thinking those were made for real men in their time. Migraine

Thanks for the comments. She is awful nice, but it's obvious she was used and not a lawn ornament. The fenders have a couple welded patches. In addition to the headlights, the wiring and switches need attention. Check out the battery cable running into the electrical box. Nevertheless, the generator was charging and the headlights do work. Somebody added an extra riser to the rear platform.

Anybody know if this tractor should have sealed-beam headlights or the older bulb-type?

Nice lookin 9 you got there. I'm curious as to what appear to be welds on the front of the tub (I think that's what it's called, anyway the large casting the engine sits in and the front end is bolted to) if they are welds how did he manage to break it? was there a loader on it at one point?

I noticed those welds too. Seller said it was like that when he bought it. From what I recall, they didn't extend down towards the axle mount. If anything, I got the impression the tractor hit something.

I supppose there could have been a loader on it.
