Farmall H matching serial numbers

My newest projectis a 1943 H Farmall. I noticed that the engine and tractor SN's are matching. This is the first IH letter series tractor I've seen with matching numbers. Was wondering if this was unique or since it is an earlier tractor the numbers still mathced on the assembly line.

Many of the block & serial numbers on H's match if the tractor still has the original engine. My Dad's 1944 H and his 1946 H both have the same serial number on the tag as they have on the block. My 1943 H has the engine out of a 1940 H, so the numbers do not match.

I have a pair of M Farmalls, a '47 and a '50 and the numbers don't match. I read somewhere that there was a gap in the numbers because the same engine block was used in several different tractors, power units, etc.

Most M don't match, one reason is every time a diesel engine was installed it made the gas engine numbers fall more behind the tractor serial #. Never found any information in writing to back this next up. But sometime in 1949 on up on M tractors the tractor serial # and engine serial # started using the same last 3 numbers. Depending what serial # range your 50 M is will determain how many thousand less your engine # is than tractor. It should be 9000, 10000 or 11000 less.
Most all H tractors match.
