OT Cutting down combine fan blades

One of the bearings on the fan for my '58 Massey Harris Model 60 Combine went out and took the fan with it. I found the correct spiders, but the fan blades are from a Model 92 combine. The mounting holes are 4 5/8" too far apart and the tips of the blades are too long.

I am looking for an accurate and simple method for laying out the location for the new holes. Any tips on getting the corners of the new holes filed out squarely would be appreciated too.

Thanks

Greg

Have a metal/welding shop use a plasme torch to quickly cut them down. Match the holes by putting brackets on, and marking them in place. JimN

If you are like me, and do not have a plasma cutter, and am just a little thrifty, i would simply lay it on top, scribe a line, and cut with a 4 inch angle grinder. A little final cleanup and drill new holes and you should be good to go. Plasma cutter is the way to go if you have access though.

As for the square holes for the carrige head bolts, I have made dozens of them over the years. It is tedious, and takes a little time and patience. Drill the hole out to the correct size. Make sure to center them properly. Then with a triangle file, work out each corner. It really goes faster than you might think.
