valve adjustment H

hi, adjusted my valves(intake& exhaust) to 20 thousands. i really expected them to be a little noisy but i dont hear anything! just wondering if they usually clatter? thanks

Mine don't clatter at that clearance.

THat is the cold (approximate) seting they will not make apreciable noise till they get to .030" or so cold. As they heat, the stems become hotter than the engine castings, and the pushrode lengthen as well. The clearance then tightens to the running (hot) spec. Thus it is best to set them hot, but they are close now. The cam has a tiny ramp area designed into the profile that takes up the clearance gently reducing noise to near nothing. If the clearance is so wide that this ramp slaps the clearance shut, there is noise. JimN
