smdta casting codes?

I stand corrected on my previous post. It was a letter z not a number 4 that was the last digit on the date plates on the tr. in question. Here are some of the no. on the tractor.bell housing= 359026-R1 trans 358840-R1 disk brake housing = 357105-R1. 8913 is stamped on engine block on left side just below head gasket and forward of center of block . There is a D stamped on the Id plate on the bell housing and the no. 69259 with the letter S following after a space. Any other painted or printed info that was on that plate has been removed and only the stamped in info remains. So am I correct that I have a smdta. I noticed pictures of smdta tractors online that had a cast ft end piece that were different from mine. Mine looks like a regular m tractor while those on line had a unique style ft end, with 4 extra nobs on the front corners.

All numbers fit a SMDTA. Front bolster may be changed sometime, usually date code on the front bolster is located on right side as sitting on seat on Y post behind grill. Bolster probably has a casting # near top front center of 9131 DA or DB or DC for a MD or SMD which would work on your tractor and not have the squared corners with hole. Most all MTA have Z codes, have saw some Y codes mostly transmission top covers, brake housings and axle housings. One or 2 on transmission. Most with your serial # had all Z codes except transmission cover may not.

Couple of things, most serial plates on those tractors have lost all information except stamped in serial # and the stamped letter or letters. From information you give I think its a SMDTA. Compare from actual tractor serial # 67223, engine serial # 8687 and block date code 2-25-Z. Think the first SMTA built was 60004 and used engine serial # 7790 with a 7-13-Y date code. If you have one with a engine serial # over 11595 its not a original SMDTA engine.
If you want to change the front bolster to look correct and don't care about original date code, one from a 400 or 450 Diesel is the same as SMDTA one and easy to find. Also a SMTA,400 and 450 gas works but hand crank parts in bolster need switched out to diesel hand crank parts if hand crank parts are wanted.
