you can run a pump off the belt pulley, but it will not be live, as soon as you push the clutch in, the pump will stop.

The crank shaft front pulley yes, the flat belt pulley is after the main clutch, and as pointed out below, stops when the clutch is in. Put belt driven live hydraulic in the search for box. JimN

Depends on which belt your talking about. If you talking the flat belt pulley no because it stops when you push the clutch in so it would not be live. The fan belt yes if you can find a belt drive type hyd. pump or you can also rig up a power steering pump off a truck and they do ok BTDT on a B at one time to lift a sickle mower I built to fit on it under the belly

Pretty much everyone told me it wouldn't work - I wouldn't transfer enough power through a belt to run any useful hydraulics, etc. Well, after five years of use, it still works just fine and I have power steering with my live hydraulics.

Back in the '50's and '60's self-propelled combines had at least 1 and sometimes 2 belt-driven hyd. pumps. I took one from a J. D. 95 combine that had a 3/8 and 1/2 inch pressure ports and replaced the char-lynn P.W. pump on a 1941 farm-al M. The 3/8" line powers the power sterring pump and the 1/2" line supplies 6-valves to all-hyd loader/grapple, 3-pt. hitch, and two remotes (both used when we put the fork lift on the 3pt. This pump is driven by a single belt and works good. Armand
